Pernilla by Filcolana is a proper lovely 3-ply sport-weight yarn spun from 100% wool from Peruvian highland sheep. The sheep are a crossbreed of Corriedale and merino and graze up in the Peruvian highlands, which helps give the wool that lovely fluffy feel and nice matte look.
It is a worsted spun yarn, so all the fibres are made to lie parallel to each other. This makes the yarn nice and smooth, and pretty strong too. The strands are very round and very even, which gives it cracking stitch definition. The perfect sport weight yarn for knitting cables and textured patterns, like Book Club Cardigan by Sari Nordlund or our fave Sorgenfri by Guri Pedersen.
Pernilla is a really versatile yarn and can be used for all sorts of knitting and crochet projects for both children and adults. And if you fancy having a go at a felting project, Pernilla can be used for that, too.
Basically, it's a lovely all-rounder for cosy jumpers, cardigans and knitted accessories. Hold it single for knitting projects that call for around a 23-24 stitch gauge, and use it with a mohair for anything from about 18-20 stitches.
And just so you know, mulesing isn't used on the Peruvian highland sheep that provide the wool for Pernilla.
